I've Caught The Azonto Bug ... Finally!

Azonto is an original Ghanaian expressive dance and music form. it's said to have originated from Bukom, Chorkor and James Town, all in Ghana.
It was initially called "Apaa", which means work, by the people of Bukom, Swalaba and its environs.
In recent times, it has been made popular by hip-life artistes like Gasmilla (my favourite!), Sarkodie, E.L e.t.c. And football star Asamoah Gyan, in his goal celebrations for his club and during matches of the Ghana Black Stars.
Anyone that wants its full history should go to Wikipedia or just google it! The main focus here, is the effect it has on yours sincerely. Yes, me!
I'm actually a late entrant onto the "Azonto" scene, seeing that it's been around since last year. Now, i'd thought that i'd seen it all when it came to dance-moves! Wasn't expecting to be surprised or even interested in any more especially after all the "yahoozee", "alanta", and the "Oliver." They all come and they go in the blink of an eye. What makes the Azonto different for me is not just the dance steps but the accompanying music by artistes like Gasmilla, Sarkodie and the others! The beats are really awesome and I can't have one without the other.
To be honest, a very dear friend of mine it was who sparked my interest in the azonto. I went out with he and other folks and pretty much everyone else was doing the moves with ease! He was very good too.
And I was peeved because I couldn't do it and it became a challenge. Who doesn't like a good one?
It became a challenge and fun when I saw Gasmilla, "the Azonto King" doing the moves in a tutorial! That peaked my interest even more. :)
In my next post, i'll be talking about the man who's made me fixated on the Azonto!
I honestly do not know when i'll get over the bug ... then again, who says I want to?!
