Maxwell ... those eyes, that voice and then THE hair! Omigosh! I'd always been a huge fan of his, I had his CD's and I loved his voice; very sensual and I got goose bumps everytime. I'd never really seen him or his shows on T.V, just pictures. I digress a bit, sorry! More of that in another post.( lol)
Until that day ... sometime in 2005. I was sitting in front of the T.V, when one his live performances came on. His hair blew me away! That was the "light-bulb" moment for me; I coveted his hair! I wanted it and I had to have it!
At that time I had almost APL(arm-pit length)relaxed hair that I hardly ever saw because it was either in braids or weaves. Unless it was re-touch time, and then it was back to weaves or braids again. How borin g! :(
For two years after, I researched(Motown Girl was very helpful) but always went back to the creamy crack until July 2007, when I stopped relaxing and had a friend chop my hair off to about 5inches.
It was at that point I stopped relaxing and started wearing box-braids and Ghana braids. I only transitioned from July until October when I cut off all the relaxed hair completely and had less than 4 inches of chemical-free hair.
Then I made a huge faux pas; I dyed my hair with a permanent hair dye. In retrospect dyeing it wasn't so bad, it's just that I didn't deep-condition nor kept it moisturised but kept it concealed underneath weaves and more weaves!
And then I was using all the wrong products; so much for the two years of research eh?! For almost five years, I did all the wrong things; everytime I took out a weave and saw that my natural hair was dry and brittle; my solution was to cut it.
Suffice to say the poor thing rebelled and said; "i'm just going to wait here patiently until you grow up and start acting responsibly"! (Lolol)
I guess that I just assumed that if I left it alone, it would grow healthy and long like it did when I was younger. Epic fail!
I've been natural for almost five years now, but i've only just started taking hair of my hair. Yeah, i grew up alright! Who wouldn't with only a year's growth for a five year journey?!
So my natural hair journey is going to be just about that; my journey. It's a learning process for me now because my goal is to have, not just long hair, but healthy hair as well.
I'd be talking about my hair, products, regimen and all that but not wholly on them because my blog is not all about hair. Although i would be posting absolutely gorgeous pictures of kinky, curly, coily, natural hair... Other people's hair. Mostly! No "NapNazi" stuff 'tho! I'm not that obsessed!
Do enjoy the rest of the week!
xoxo
