PROFILE: NIGERIA'S POLO QUEEN; UNEKU ATAWODI

Hi, every one! How's the weekend been? Boring? Quiet?  Or so-active-you-barely-have-time-to-sit-down? Whatever it is, this ought to hold your interest for a bit! I'm a bit stoked because I love reading and talking about women who carve niches for themselves in male-dominated professions! #Team FierceWoman#

She's Uneku Atawodi, only 24 years old with a long string of achievements under her belt that would make most people go green with envy! Lol
She was born in Nigeria, grew up in Kaduna, Pakistan, Brazil and England amongst other places. She attended the University of Brighton(she was the Captain of Brighton University Polo team BHS Stage 3 rider) where she bagged a BSc in Equestrian Science, with a British Horse Society stage 4 riding accreditation and also the European Business School(EBS) - London, with an MA in International Business with Spanish.

She was a Representative of the Federation of International Polo, Chantilly, France from 2007 to 2008.
Where she worked for the FIP President, Patrick Guerrand-Hermes and consequently was part of the team that brought him to Nigeria for the first time ever!

Riding at night in Abuja

She was also the Assistant Manager and Polo Coach, Saratoga Polo Resort, New York State from June 2010 to September 2010. She's a Special Assistant to the Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of the F.C.T,  Abuja.

She's a businesswoman; the owner of Bamboo House Hotel and Lounge, Maitama, Abuja. A nature-inspired boutique hotel, since 2010. She's a member of the Argentina Polo Lounge. She just doesn't stop, now does she?! Lol

At  the Miami  Polo Tourney, in 2011

She's feisty, awe-inspiring and a  go-getter! Have I mentioned that Uneku is the only female Polo player to have gone professional in West Africa and the only active black female player worldwide? Yes, she is. And she's showing no signs of stopping either! Hers is a story that will no doubt  inspire and motivate millions of women worldwide and as an icing to the cake, she has put  Nigeria on the  map, positively too.

The heavens are your limit, Uneku Atawodi; we wish you the best and more laurels. And watch this space, everyone, because you haven't heard the last of her.

Do enjoy the rest of the weekend, folks!

xoxo
